The track uses the Boss DD-3, the Line 6 DL4 and the TC Electronic Nova Delay. The Boss DD-3 is is set to a standard 1/4 note repeat while the TC Electronic Nova Delay is set to a reverse delay with modualtion. Finally, the Line 6 DL4 is set to ‘Digital delay with modualtion’ with very high repeats.
Really nice ambient sound textures. Don’t forget to check out his myspace page.
I’ve mentioned here before about how I consider a looping pedal such as the Boss RC-20XL Loop Station as the prodigal son of the digital delay pedal. I got one of these pedals several years ago and used it to do a busking routine with guitar where I would lay down blues/funk/jazz rhythm parts and sounds and then do some improv over the backing for a minute or two per loop. As well as looking at the basic specs and capabilities of the pedal, I want to go a bit into how I believe having any good loop pedal such as this one can progerss your playing generally.
Here is a nice demo of the Boss DD3 digital delay pedal by Mike at shortscale forum. He goes through the different modes of the pedal including short delay, medium delay and long delay as well as hold mode, which repeats the delay sound indefinitely while the pedal is held down. You can see the range of delay times from 12.5 ms to 800 ms for these different modes as well as the oscillation (detune) abilities of the pedal. This gives a good overview of the basic capabilities of the pedal.
I tend to see a loop pedal such as the Boss Loop Station as the prodigal son of the digital delay, however, many of the more up market digital delay pedals are now including a loop sampling feature. Such pedals include the Boss DD-7, the Boss DD-20, the Akai Headrush and the Line 6 DL4 (limited to 14 seconds) and others. The looping capacity of such pedals is typically a lot less than a dedicated looping pedal, in terms of both the available recording time and the ability to store loops, but of course a digital delay will have other modes of interesting delay effects available that a loop pedal might not have.
